Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 526.80 crore on Wednesday, 1 September 2010, slightly lower than Rs 538.40 crore on Tuesday, 31 August 2010. The net inflow of Rs 526.80 crore on 1 September 2010 was a result of gross purchases Rs 2730 crore and gross sales Rs 2203.20 crore. There was an inflow of Rs 486.30 crore into secondary equity markets which was a result of gross purchases Rs 2670.50 crore and gross sales Rs 2184.20 crore. The BSE Sensex rose 234.75 points or 1.31% to 18,205.87 on that day. There was an inflow of Rs 40.50 crore in the category 'primary market & others', which was a result of gross purchases Rs 59.50 crore and gross sales Rs 19 crore. FIIs had bought equities worth Rs 12,225.90 crore in August 2010. FII inflow in the calendar year 2010 totaled Rs 60,447 crore (till 1 September 2010).
