The market may see a flat-to-positive start, extending Saturday's rise, on follow-up buying. The S&P CNX Nifty futures for February 2010 expiry were trading 11.50 points higher in Singapore. Asian markets were trading mixed today. However, volatility may remain high as investors may remain cautious over sovereign debt problems in the euro zone.

Key benchmark indices recovered smartly to strike the day's high in mid-afternoon trade as heavyweight stocks staged a solid recovery from early lows. Upbeat start from European markets also lifted sentiment. The BSE 30-share Sensex was up 140.13 points or 0.88% to 16,055.78, up a sharp 403.79 points from the day's low. The sharp pullback helped the barometer index BSE Sensex cross the psychological 16,000 mark.

The BSE 30-share Sensex was provisionally up 27.37 points or 0.17% to 15,943.02, up 291.03 points from the day's low and off 118.39 points from the day's high. The barometer index BSE Sensex had raced above the psychological 16,000 mark in mid-afternoon trade boosted by upbeat start from European markets.
